Wind in the Acers

The wind was wailing in the trees yesterday. From the glass house, we heard the creeking of the sycamores and the tapping of leaves as they pelted the windows. Then we heard a 'crack' followed by the sounds of a tree tumbling into its neighbors. Student groups were called out of the woods and into the prairies.

One of the many Boxelder (Acer negundo) trees near Deer Creek fell during the windy period in the afternoon. The wind was followed by a half-inch of rain which ended just in time for a lovely pink and orange sunset.
