Thank you for your interest in participating with your students in field studies at Litzsinger Road Ecology Center. Please use the following timeline as a guide in your planning process. While the process is most effective when initiated prior to the beginning of the school year, applications are accepted throughout the year.

Prior to the beginning of the school year

1. Obtain, complete, and submit the field study grant application. Staff will contact you to set up a planning meeting.
2. At the planning meeting, clarify field study unit plans and funding needs. Establish dates and times for student visits to LREC.
3. If you have not visited LREC, make arrangements with staff to preview the Center.

One month before your visit

1. Contact LREC about student transportation arrangements. You have two options:
   • You may make arrangements through your school or district to transport your students. However, please be aware that full size busses are not allowed at LREC. Transportation invoices should be directed to LREC.
   • LREC will make transportation arrangements through a fully insured local bus company.

One week before your visit

1. Contact LREC staff to confirm your schedule, providing an update on the number of students and any adjustments to your plans.
2. If you made your own transportation arrangements, contact the bus company to confirm your schedule.

3. As much as possible, prepare students to make effective use of their time at LREC, including clarifying learning goals, completing pre-trip lessons and familiarizing students with field study activity plans.

One day before your visit

1. Prepare nametags for your students.
2. Remind students to dress for the outdoors, including close-toed shoes, long pants, and any other weather appropriate clothing. While shelter is available, students should be prepared to spend extended periods outdoors. Rain ponchos are available for use at the Center. While the LREC staff trained in first aid, they will not apply sunscreen or insect repellant on students.
3. As much as possible, prepare students to make effective use of their time at LREC, including clarifying learning goals and familiarizing students with field study activity plans. Staff is available to assist students in preparing for their field studies.
