4-H GIS/GPS Institute
July 16–18, 2007 or August 13–15, 2007
In this intensive institute, learn the basics of how geographic information system (GIS) software and global positioning system (GPS) receivers can be used to map community issues. Day 1 teaches the basics, then Day 2 and Day 3 go into depth locating and using data, aerial images, and topographic maps. Throughout, the focus is on how these tools can be used to enhance your projects. Leave with stronger skills, a project design, and a network of fellow 4-H leaders committed to using technology to make a difference in your community.
Workshop Leader: Dr. Bob Coulter is an experienced GIS user and project developer with more than 20 years of experience working with youth. He is also a recipient of the 2006 ESRI "Special Achievement in GIS" award.
Important notes: There is no cost for the workshop, but participants are responsible for all travel, lodging, and meal costs. Program staff can guide you to hotel selections at a variety of price ranges.
Space is limited in both workshops. Please wait until your application has been accepted before making non-refundable travel arrangements.
Adult leaders are welcome to attend with or without youth in their clubs. If youth attend, their leaders are responsible for supervising youth at all times.
