The Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC) is offering up to 3 research grants for undergraduate or graduate students, faculty, or professional researchers conducting research at LREC on any topic related to ecology, conservation, or environmental science. Preference will be given to grants that are aligned with the research goals of LREC.

Grants will be up to $1000, with a possibility for greater funding for proposals conducting extensive research at LREC. Grant money can be used to fund consumable and expendable supplies, travel expenses to and from LREC, stipends for collecting data at LREC or processing and interpreting data generated from LREC, and the cost of attending conferences to present research conducted at LREC. Grant money cannot be used to support permanent equipment or expenses for work done elsewhere. If permanent equipment is required for the research, please include this; LREC may consider purchasing it for use on site. Our grants cannot include indirect return costs.

The grant proposal should include:

For all applicants:

  • an abstract, a budget, and a description of proposed research including introduction, research question or hypothesis, research design, significance of the research to LREC and the broader community, and references. This section of the proposal should be no longer than 5 double-spaced pages.
  • a brief resume or curriculum vitae with the researcher’s legal name, permanent and current addresses, telephone number, and email address.

For students only:

  • a letter of recommendation, which must be from the scientist who will supervise the research.
  • a copy of a current college transcript.

Applications must have all of the information requested. Any incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Grantees must provide a report at the conclusion of the proposed research to be posted on the LREC website. Publications produced from research conducted through this grant must cite the Litzsinger Road Ecology Foundation as a funding source and a duplicate or reprint of the publication must be sent to LREC.
