Showy goldenrod is a Missouri native perennial which typically occurs in dry soils in open woods, fields, and prairies throughout most of the State except the Ozark region. Flowers bloom mid to late summer and are attractive to bees and butterflies. (Plant info from http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/alpha.asp.)
The bee to the right of the butterfly is a bumble bee (Genus Bombus) and the two bees to the left of the butterfly are honey bees (Apis mellifera).
