Date: July 21, 2005
Photographer: Jenna Tune

Common Name: Rosin Weed and Bumble Bee
Scientific Name: Silphium integrifolium and Bombus

Rosin weed is a coarse, sunflower-like perennial. The common name of rosin weed is in reference to the fact that the stems (like those of all silphiums) exude a gummy sap when broken or cut. (Plant info from http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/alpha.asp.)
